PARENT PAUSE Vol 2: To Check or Not to Check -- That is the Question!

Recently, I had the special opportunity to be with moms and their teen daughters for a television taping of a new season of shows for the NRB network.  I host a television show that airs every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. CST and Fridays at 1:30 p.m. on channel 378 on Direct TV.  The show is called "Grace in High Heels," and it includes teaching, as well as music, interviews and some special segments with live audiences.

As parents, we long to build strong lines of communication with our teens, but sometimes that can be easier said than done.

Reminders, reminders...

Have you ever received a reminder, and then received that same reminder…again?  For Christmas, my husband David received a plaque that said, “Don’t overlook the small things for some day, you will realize they were the big things.”  As a reminder to cherish things, big and small, we put the plaque in our breakfast room so that we could see it every morning.

Happy Summer!

What a summer so far!  I don’t know about you, but this summer has been hopping around the Perry house.  The most exciting part has been finishing my new book for parents of teens and tweens titled, “The Overlooked Generation.”  I have to tell you, I’m super excited about the book coming out because there is so much in there that I believe will truly be practical and applicable for parents.  I’m also thrilled about having the amazing Josh McDowell’s endorsement for the book!  Josh McDowell wrote the book, “Evidence that Demands a Verdict.”  This book was written as Josh tried to disprove there was a God…and became a believer through the research he did.  He has an amazing story, and if you aren’t familiar with his ministry through Campus Crusades for Christ, I encourage you to visit his site and read his work.  You can read more by visiting www.josh.org I always considered Josh a “spiritual hero” growing up and still love and admire him to this day.

Ssshhhh...Don't tell...

This week is Valentine's Week and I have to say, I am a romantic at heart. I love all the gooey sayings, mushy movies and yummy things that go with this Hallmark holiday. David and I got married on Valentine's Day, so it's always a special day in my book. As the years go by, I have noticed my creativity for gifts gets a little less innovative, so this year I was REALLY challenged when I...

First of all, let me say HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you! As I was looking over some of my goals for last year, I realized that I did quite well with some, but with others, I failed MISERABLY. As you know, blogging is not just about me sharing my thoughts. ...

Praying

Lately, there have been a lot of requests coming into my office to pray for those who are sick with cancer.  While this is certainly no surprise after what David and I walked through, it has really become an overwhelming need in many of the lives involved in this ministry. David and I are committed to pray for those who are struggling because we know firsthand the hardships that cancer brings.  We also know that GOD is a HEALER.  Read more about our story in my upcoming book “Grace In High Heels” due for release soon!

I had the chance to preview the book cover today and it is great!!!  The designer is so talented and I LOVE what they are doing so far.  Ok…I’ll give you a hint.  There are two things on the cover that go with two stories I tell in the conferences.   One of them has been called “the most hilarious story I have ever heard.”  Any guesses??

NEW BOOK COMING SOON!!

What a time I have had working on my new book.  Five years ago, I had several successful authors try VERY hard to convince me to write a book.  My publicist put the finishing touches on that request, and voila, a book is coming soon.   The book is filled with hilarious stories and God given insights into His Word and how we can handle life with His help.

Time to Celebrate the Savior!

Happy December! What a great time of year.  Oh, not because of the lights, stockings and gifts, but because we get to put our focus where it really counts-Jesus!  Isn’t it great?  For one month, the world has to hear about Jesus.  They can’t help it!  It’s in the songs that are piped through the mall and the Christmas cards that are sent by many.  It’s His birthday, after all…so why not celebrate?

Change is good!

Last week my sound guy of four years announced he had to leave the road.  Now, I always proclaim to trust God, but this has opened up a WHOLE new world of changes where I have to put my money where my mouth is.  Here’s the great part.  God has already shown both Jeff (sound guy) and I that he is doing a great thing and that we are right on track.

Dad’s home!

After a week of being told dad may have cancer, they finally figured out that it was Salmonella!  I have never been so happy to hear someone had food poisoning in all my life!    Thanks SO much for all of the prayers that were sent our way.  We are giving God ALL the glory and we know that it is because of prayer that Dad was healed so quickly.

Keep on Pressin’ On!

Today is one of those days where I would rather be curled up in my bed with a good book while a candle is burning nearby.  It’s rainy and dark and I am SO sleepy.  Instead, I am eating a sugar cookie from my favorite bakery and pushing through my “to do” list in the office.

Oh what fun it is…

Ok…I am VERY thankful this Thanksgiving for my family, the ministry, my friends, and food.  AND…my round pen that just came for my horse!  Since I was thrown in March and was all broken on the inside, I was “forbidden” to get back on until I got one.  It came today right in the middle of shooting the video for “Bad Hair Day” on the new CD.  It was chaos with kids running everywhere, camera going, and our cowboy friend from North Carolina setting up the pen-it was awesome!  I love these kind of days.

Let Go of the Trigger!

Today I decided to help my husband around the house and power wash the driveway after we had some dirt delivered.  He wasn’t around to help me start the power washer, so I rolled it onto the driveway and began yanking on the cord.  Everytime I tried to start it, the washer would roll away from me.  Ugghhh!  Finally, I found this thing called a “choke” and pulled it.  Aha!  It started right up.  As I grabbed the wand where the water comes out, I didn’t realize it would have a mind of it’s own!  I pulled the trigger and all of a sudden, I began to spin around the driveway like a deflated balloon.  Water was going everywhere, and the washer was pulling ME all over the driveway!  It was hilarious.  I was soaking wet and laughing hysterically but I could have saved myself this little incident by LETTING GO OF THE TRIGGER!
